How do you make your decisions?
Do you think of what will be the consequences of the decision? or do you rather think of which would be more fun?
Most of us think of this in a mix of the two, usually in the wrong mix. The way I make my decisions is by making a list of advantages and disadvantages in my mind.If it covers a large portion in my life then it is probably better to jot it down on paper.
Now, most of us are usually faced with only two decisions, a YES or a NO.
Would you spend $500 on your daughter's college field trip?
This is a YES or NO question.
most people would answer this to their daughters with a plain Yes or NO based on their present mood. But you should't. What if this field trip means that your daughter could fall in trouble?
What if this could be the best day of her life? You would certainly not want that to be lost just at the cost of $500 would you?
But this thought is not valid unless you are in an emotionless mood. This mood is never achieved as the brain is constantly thinking of something subconsciously. If this is not possible, then what is the solution?
The solution is to think of all advantages:
1.This trip will educate my child
2.It will also help her bond with her friends

The solution is to think of all advantages:
1.This trip will educate my child
2.It will also help her bond with her friends
3.This might also make her career decisions in life as one experience usually changes a persons life.
4.It will make my wallet a bit lot lighter.
And all the disadvantages:
1.I will primarily lose $500
2.My daughter might choose the wrong career just by this one trip so i will have to send her on other such trips to help her make the right decision which will result in a loss of more money.
Since the bulk of my advantages are greater than the disadvantages, i should probably let her go on the trip. But before that, can I reduce the disadvantages?
Can I reduce the cost of the trip? NO
Can I prevent her from making the wrong decision? YES . By talking to her and convincing her to look at all the advantages and disadvantages of going to the trip and of making the right choice.
